Shalinka Brickhouse is the owner of "Glee," the new hourly daycare in Turkey Creek. A mommy of four, she can relate to those moments of crisis when the babysitter cancels or a trip to the grocery store with the kids takes longer than intended.
"We're here basically whenever parents need us," she said. "If you have appointments, if you have errands, if you need to clean your house, any of those things that pop up is what we're here for."
The hourly daycare puts a spin on traditional ones. There's no monthly requirement, and you can drop your kids off for up to seven hours a day. "Glee" offers a number of activities to keep the kids busy.
"We have seven different play areas, we have an arts and crafts table, we have a puppet theater, reading area, blocks area, home and kitchen."
Since kids from ages one to 12 are welcome at "Glee," there's something fun for not only tiny tots but also pre-teens.
"We have a big kid area behind me that has playstation, and a computer for them, board games, and then we have a movie area," Shalinka said. "We also have snack tables throughout so if they're hungry they can get a snack and sit down and relax for a minute."
To help parents relax, "Glee" makes sure each teacher supervises no more than eight children. Webcams are also installed throughout the daycare so that parents can peep in on their kids.
"It's a great tool for parents to feel more comfortable when they leave children," Shalinka said. "I think it's very important for parents to feel comfortable in leaving their children here."
Glee are CPR certified. Glee also donates 10 percent of its profit to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, as well as the Multiple Sclerosis and Kidney foundations.
