A group of parents is protesting a drive-through espresso stand in Everett, Washington, that features scantily clad hostesses.
Bunny Baristas is located at the only entrance to the parking lot at a daycare center. The female shop attendant wears a revealing bikini top and skimpy shorts, as well as bunny ears and tail. Allison Alexander, one of the parents interviewed by KING-TV, has a two-year-old daughter who attends the daycare, which is located next to the espresso shop and another daycare center.
"It is not fair to have sex trades and adult entertainment in front of children," she contends.
Many elementary school students are bused to the daycare each weekday, Alexander says. "How can an eight-year-old boy understand why he's driving by a girl in a thong bikini with bunny ears and a bunny tail?" she asks. She adds that the children have been asking their parents and teachers pointed questions about the espresso shop.
Snohomish County Council chairman Mike Cooper believes action is in order. "We need to take the necessary action to make sure that our children are not exposed to adult businesses," he concludes.
County code enforcement officers were invited to but did not attend a demonstration because they disagree with Cooper on the issue.
